January has been a nice month. Jason Boesel’s debut solo album, Hustler’s Son, was released by Team Love on the 12th, and he has begun to receive some great reviews. Consequence of Sound, for example, had some lovely things to say, as did The L Magazine and the CMT Blog.
February will prove to be even more exciting because Jason Boesel is hitting the road! Starting February 5th in Santa Cruz, CA, Jason will be making his way across the US with Dawes and Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons. With Dawes joining him on stage, they will be horseshoeing from Santa Cruz all the way to the east coast and back west, ending in his hometown, Los Angeles on March 11th. We can’t wait for his NY date at Bowery Ballroom on February 19th. If you’re in the NYC area, maybe we’ll see you there! If not, make sure to take a look at all of the tour dates after the jump.
Going for Radio 200 Adds 2/8: Midnight Masses "Rapture Ready, I Gazed At The Body"
Posted by Jen Marmor on 4 February, 01:31 PM
Last night, Midnight Masses kicked off their month-long residency at Union Pool in Brooklyn. Included in their set were the songs that appear on “Rapture Ready, I Gazed At The Body,” as well as an awesome cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” in honor of guitarist Destiny Montague’s birthday. Watching for the first time Autry Fulbright belt out these intensely beautiful and emotional songs live was a bit cathartic and made going out on that cold Wednesday night 100% worth it. Midnight Masses’ debut EP is out now on both Team Love and Collect Records, and will be going for CMJ Radio 200 Adds on February 8th. And, if you’re in Brooklyn any Wednesday in February, we insist that you stop by Union Pool and check them out!
Yawning usually happens when one is drowsy or even bored. The Yawn EP, however, is certainly not boring or sleep-inducing. Using synths, harmonies, samplers and more, Yawn has managed to pack tons of dance beats, harmonies and afro-pop stylings into an animated, high-spirited 5-song EP. Mushpot has been playing it non-stop since winter break, which coincidentally was the perfect solution to Marmor’s hatred of cold weather, and is excited to finally share it with the college radio world. I Guess I’m Floating raves that, “the songs seem strategically diversified, each offering a distinct sonic experience through a manic, organic pastiche of melodies and textures, yet they are bound by an interwovenness rarely found with the EP format,” and we couldn’t agree more. What’s even better is that the band has made this glorious EP available to download for free on their website!
Going for Radio 200 Adds 1/18: Jason Boesel "Hustler's Son"
Posted by Jen Marmor on 14 January, 11:37 AM
Well, hello there! We at Mushpot Promotions are totally excited about our first add of 2010, Jason BoeselHustler’s Son. Taking a break from his Rilo Kiley drumming duties, Jason was joined by some friends (Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith, Nik Freitas, Band of Horses’ Blake Mills and his Rilo Kiley pal, Blake Sennett, to name a few) to record his debut solo album. It was released just this past Tuesday, January 12th on Team Love Records. The Huffington Post’s Sal Nunziato calls the album a “smart and much needed fresh slice of Americana,” while NYLON blogs that “Boesel’s voice is as smooth as it is twangy, and will have you wondering why he’s been hiding behind a drum kit for all these years.”
Check out Jason’s recent Daytrotter session here. As well, you can catch Jason on tour in support of Hustler’s Son, with Dawes as his backing band, beginning February 5 in Santa Cruz, CA. Make sure to check all of the tour dates here!
